Timaru based designer Gus Leen is hugely influenced by the texture, form and movement found in Nature. He draws on these three elements to inform his designs.

For some time, Gus had been experimenting with large, wide base floor lighting designs. Inspiration from organic forms found in nature such as the shape of a water droplet, combined with the form of a small musical shaker from Thailand resulted in a new lighting design, Luna table light.

Luna comprises a twenty-four piece array of sustainably grown bamboo curves that, once illuminated, create a subtle projection of shadows that appears at the base of the lamp. 

Bamboo’s rapid growth rate, superior natural strength and fine textured grain were all factors that informed Gus’s choice of material; not only was it practically suitable for the curvy design, but the grain’s detail lends the finished natural lamps a raw elegance. The external faces of the bamboo brackets are either finished natural or in black enamel paint. Gus chose the paint specifically for durability and consistency of finish.
