Established Auckland artist Angie Dennis has been painting professionally since 2002. Originally from the UK, Angie made New Zealand her home in 1998. Having studied Environmental Science, it is perhaps no surprise that the preservation of indigenous flora and fauna is prominent in her artwork. Angie is continually inspired by what NZ has to offer, and is constantly pushing the boundaries in the way she sees life in her new found home.

Described as vibrant, contemporary and bold, Angie’s artworks complement and enrich the interiors of many homes and businesses here in New Zealand and abroad.

Many stories are told and problems are solved over a cup of tea! “Descendants Of” symbolises the settlement of New Zealand. NZ’s history dates back at least 700 years to when Polynesians arrived. They settled and developed a distinct Māori culture centred on kinship links and connection with the land. The red-black-white cup was inspired by “Maori ware” manufactured by Royal Doulton (1906 to 1923). On top of this sits the blue-white cup, Angie’s own design that represents Dutch navigator Abel Tasman - the first European explorer to sight NZ and in 1642. In the late 18th century, British explorer James Cook became the first European to outline the coast of NZ - Cook is depicted by the yellow-pink cup, which may also be the cup he drank from on his voyages. Butterflies symbolise hope, new beginnings and happiness.
